Would your insurance agent believe how much tackle you lost?

Going fishing?
Video or Photo your fishing tackle and gear for insurance purposes in case rods/reels
or other tackle were stolen during the trip. You will thank yourself many times over if
someone decides they need your fishing tackle worse than you do.
We were staying in a very remote area on one trip and the Sheriff pulled up as we
were about to get a room at a motel. He was very congenial and we found it unusual he
would stop to talk to fishermen. He told us there had been two boats parked there the
night before and both were empty of all their tackle this morning. The guys were
devastated. Needless to say we made an hour long late night drive to a bigger town.
It's quite common to have hundreds of dollars invested in one tackle box, rod or
reel. Electronics, boat batteries and elec./gas trolling motors are even higher value.
The first thing your insurance agent will do is ask you to make a list. It's almost
impossible to remember everything once it's gone.
You can expand this idea and document all your household property. Put it on a zip or
flash drive and store it in a bank box or other safe place but not in your home. A good
way to record this is to purchase a home version of voice recognition that will type it
out for you as you inventory. You can always go back later and pick out each item if
needed.
My favorite is to use a handycam, tell what the items are and what you paid for them.
Download to a CD-R or Zip Drive and store off site. Then just hope you never need it.

Have a great year fishing.
